International studies at Trinity gives students the opportunity to broaden their knowledge and gain new perspectives on issues facing today's world. With a strong emphasis on gaining international perspective and experiences, many majors spend part of their college career in another country, immersed in another language and culture.
The international studies major allows students to combine courses from various departments into a single interdisciplinary major or minor under the direction of faculty advisers from the participating academic departments. Students select from seven concentrations including African studies, East Asian studies, European studies, Latin American and Latino studies, Middle East studies, international affairs, and international environmental studies.
Students are also encouraged to participate in Languages Across the Curriculum (LAC) courses, which provide opportunities for students with advanced language skills to take courses in diverse areas as business, the environment, history, economics, and anthropology, which typically are taught in the target language.
