Physics and Astronomy

Physics is foundational to understanding the rules that govern the universe, and physicists seeks to understand these rules through observation, mathematical modeling, and experimentation. You will learn some of these foundational rules such as Newton’s Laws of Motion, conservation of energy, and Maxwell’s equations describing electromagnetic radiation. The accompanying lab will allow students put in practice the concepts learned in the courses.

Requirements

Completion of at least 10 credit hours, including:
MATH 1311* (Prerequisite – successful completion of either MATH 1301 or the equivalent)
PHYS 1309 or PHYS 1311, (Pre- or corequisite – MATH 1311, corequisite: PHYS 1111)
PHYS 1111, (Corequisite PHYS 1309 or 1311)
and one additional PHYS course.

*If MATH 1311 is used for a student’s primary major, then they must add an additional PHYS course to complete the Discovery.
 

Additional Information

  • A student must complete at least one  Discovery to qualify for graduation
.
  • Courses in the Discovery must be taken at Trinity University.
  • Students can also fulfill the Discovery requirement by completing a second major or a minor.
