Frances K. Hendricks Fine Arts Award

The Frances K. Hendricks Fine Arts Award was established by the Spurs sorority to honor the late Frances Hendricks, a professor in the history department for more than 30 years and a Spurs sponsor. The award honors a graduating senior majoring in one of the fine arts who has made an outstanding contribution to the arts community at the University. It is presented each year to encourage students in the fine arts to become a vital force in the larger life of the campus.

The award honors one student per year and consists of a plaque and $150.00. Procedures for nomination are as follows:

  • Each year at the beginning of the second semester, members of the departments of art and art history, music, and human communication and theatre will meet independently to discuss the qualifications of students within their department who are eligible for this award.
  • Each department submits the name of one candidate together with a written statement describing the candidate's qualifications for consideration. Along with on-campus involvement, the panel will also consider artistic contributions to the larger San Antonio community.
