Semmes Distinguished Scholars in Science Award

Annually, Trinity University selects two or three outstanding incoming first-year students to be Semmes Distinguished Scholars in Science. This full-tuition scholarship, designed for four years of undergraduate study, is accompanied by a $5,000 stipend for research, materials, and professional travel. The scholarship is renewable provided awarded students maintain at least a 3.0 cumulative GPA and major in a STEM-related field.

Upon Trinity’s receipt and review of all applications, a select group of applicants will be invited as finalists for a Semmes Scholar Day, to include interviews, STEM tours, and engagement with our faculty on February 7, 2020.

To be considered for this award you must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident, and complete these requirements:

  • First, submit the ApplyTexas application, the Common Application, or the Coalition Application and supporting documents for admission under an Early Decision I or Early Action decision plan no later than November 1.
  • Then, using your applicant portal credentials, submit the online application by November 1. You can preview the Semmes application questions here
  • Major in: Biology, Biochemistry, Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science, Engineering Science, Geosciences, Mathematics, Neuroscience, or Physics and Astronomy.
