Reading TUgether

Reading TUgether provides the entire Trinity community with a shared reading and learning experience. Past books have included Evicted by Matthew Desmond, Salt Sugar Fat: How the Food Giants Hooked Us by Michael Moss, and The Circle by Dave Eggers.

In the 2019 selection, On Immunity: An Innoculation (2014), Eula Biss mines her own experience as a new mother to explore broader conversations about vaccination, the history of medicine, and our responsibilities to each other. Weaving together historical research, literary analysis, and scientific understanding, Biss acknowledges the power of our fears but also reaches beyond them to illuminate our fundamental interdependence.

Eula Biss will speak at Trinity on Aug. 21, 2019, at 7 p.m. in Laurie Auditorium, a free event open to the public as well as Trinity students, staff, and faculty.

As part of new student orientation, the incoming class of 2023 will also complete a short, online summer research assignment that provides an opportunity to reflect more deeply on Biss’s book. The assignment, due Aug. 5, will be completed in TLearn, Trinity’s course management system. New students should go to TLearn, log in with their TUNetwork name and password, and select “Reading TUgether - 2019” from the list of courses on left-side menu. Questions about the assignment can be directed to FYE Librarian Anne Jumonville Graf, ajumonvi [at] trinity.edu.
