Carolyn Bonilla

Wednesday, September 9, 2015

It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Carolyn Bonilla, a secretary in the Department of English at Trinity University. She was involved in an automobile accident on Friday, Sept. 4.

Carolyn had worked at Trinity since 2008 when she joined the University as a Mail Center clerk. She then served for two years as a secretary for the Office of Student Involvement, formerly Campus and Community Involvement. From 2010 to 2014, Carolyn worked as a building coordinator for the Coates University Center. After leaving the University for a year, Carolyn returned to Trinity in July 2015 as a secretary in the Department of English.

Claudia Stokes, chair of the Department of English, called Carolyn a dedicated worker who was conscientious and reliable.

“She was gregarious, social, and a good friend to many members of the Trinity community,” Stokes said. “She will be genuinely missed.”

Carolyn was a San Antonio native who attended Harlandale High School and earned a certification as an administrative assistant from Career Point Institute. Prior to Trinity, Carolyn worked for the San Antonio Livestock Show and Rodeo, for InTEC of San Antonio, and Khoury Alternative Claims Management.

Carolyn is remembered by Jamie Thompson, director of Student Involvement, as a committed team member who was guided by beliefs that kept her grounded.

“Carolyn’s colleagues and the Trinity family will remember her for her infectious laugh, good-natured temper, and calming presence,” Thompson said.

When Carolyn was not working, she enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, the outdoors, and listening to music. She was a member of Door Christian Fellowship Church. Carolyn is survived by her three children, her brothers, and her parents.

A visition for Carolyn will be held at Camero Funeral Home on Thursday, Sept. 10 from 4 to 9 p.m. A prayer service will be held on Sept. 10 at 7 p.m. and the funeral service will be held on Friday, Sept. 11 at 10 a.m. The Camero Funeral Home is located at 20567 TX-16, Von Ormy, TX 78073.
