George C. "Tim" Hixon
Trinity remembers longtime Trinity Trustee, friend, and supporter

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of longtime Trinity Trustee, friend, and supporter George C. “Tim” Hixon '64. Hixon's success as a businessman was surpassed only by his acts of goodwill and charity, of which Trinity was a significant beneficiary. As chairman of the Board of Trustees from 2007-10, he helped Trinity navigate a successful $200 million capital campaign, and his name is familiar to the many students, faculty, and alumni who have enjoyed the Hixon Natatorium in the Bell Athletic Center. He graduated from Trinity with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration, and he received the Distinguished Alumnus Award in 1987. Hixon retired from the board in May 2017 and was subsequently bestowed the Distinguished Service Award and Trustee Emeritus status by his fellow Trustees.

"Tim’s impact on Trinity has been far-reaching and will be felt by generations of Tigers, faculty, and staff," said Danny Anderson, president of Trinity University. "Moreover, his generosity of spirit was a blessing to all those who knew him."

Hixon’s love of Trinity was matched by his love of the outdoors. A lifelong fisherman and hunter, he was the 1997 recipient of the Chevron Conservation Award, the nation’s most prestigious honor for conservation.

His commitment was known at home around the globe, from serving as treasurer of the African Wildlife Foundation and executive vice president of Game Conservation International to president of the San Antonio Zoological Society and chairman of the Parks and Wildlife Foundation of Texas.

Hixon nurtured various family business interests, from venture capital to oil and gas exploration and real estate development. Most recently, he served as chairman of Hixon Properties, where he helped shape the development of San Antonio for decades to come.

A memorial service officiated by the Rev. Raymond Judd will be held at 3 p.m. on Monday, July 23 at the Margarite B. Parker Chapel at Trinity University.
