Legal Professional Joins Trinity’s Board of Trustees
Thomas Evans ‘84 brings strategic perspective, passion for student experiences

Trinity University is proud to announce the appointment of Thomas Evans '84 to the Board of Trustees. He will begin his service to the University in Summer 2020 and attend his first meeting of the full Board in September.

“I am delighted to welcome Thomas Evans to our Board. Professionally, he brings a wealth of experience and strategic perspective from an accomplished legal career,” says Melody Meyer '79, chair of Trinity’s Board. “Beyond that, Tom is a Trinity alumnus who cares deeply about the University and its commitment to cultivating a community of critical thinkers and lifelong learners.”

Evans is senior vice president and counsel for the North American transportation business unit of XPO Logistics, Inc., based in Charlotte, North Carolina. Previously, he has served as vice president and general counsel for a division of Walmart Stores, Inc.

“After several years on the Trinity Board of Visitors, I have a good understanding of the University. I am also the father of a college student and a high school student, and I care deeply about the experiences and expectations of today's students,” Evans says. “My wife is an alumna, like me, and I am honored to become a Trustee at Trinity University to continue strengthening an institution that has made such an impact in my own life and career."

Evans’ appointment reflects a commitment by the Board of Trustees to recruit members who reflect the diversity of our University. Since the appointment of President Danny Anderson five years ago, the Board has recruited 12 new Trustees, including two African-Americans and eight women, according to Meyer.

“With every new board member, we seek talents, time, and life experiences that will enrich their governance of a diverse and inclusive Trinity,” Meyer says, “which is a critical component of achieving our aspirational values.”

Trinity is governed by up to 36 Trustees who are responsible for establishing policies for the governance of the University. The University continues to benefit from the leadership of a highly effective and engaged Board of Trustees, composed of individuals with diverse experience and backgrounds.
