Trinity Appoints Interim Business School Dean
Robert Scherer brings more than three decades of experience in higher education

Trinity University has appointed Robert Scherer as interim dean of Trinity's School of Business. Scherer was selected from a competitive search process with the assistance of The Registry, a prominent placement service that places experienced academic leaders in interim positions at colleges and universities. His one-year appointment begins on July 1.

Scherer brings considerable experience from a thirty-year career in higher education. He has spent more than fifteen years as a business dean, having held such a position at the University of Alabama in Huntsville, the University of Dallas, and Cleveland State University. Scherer has longstanding ties to the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) and has completed more than fifty engagements with this group. For instance, he has directed successful initial and reaccreditation efforts as a dean, participated in numerous site team visits, and has led seminars and workshops.

Scherer is fluent in Spanish and was a Fulbright Senior Scholar in Chile. His published research has covered a number of areas including international management, stress and coping, gender issues in the workplace, business education, and entrepreneurship. He serves as an executive editor for the Journal of Social Psychology and was principal editor for both editions of the book, A Field Guide to Internationalization Business Education.

During this temporary appointment, Scherer will supervise the operations of the School of Business and the three academic departments contained within: Accounting, Business Administration, and Finance & Decision Sciences. He will play an important role in shepherding the School of Business through a re-accreditation review with the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB). In addition, he will work with the Stamat consultant group to engage in a visioning exercise for the School of Business, liaise with the Business Advisory Council, support in the hiring of new faculty, and help the University prepare for the arrival of a new dean. As the interim dean, Scherer will report to Deneese Jones, the Vice President for Academic Affairs.

Scherer holds a Ph.D. in management from the University of Mississippi, an M.A. in management from the University of the Redlands, and a B.A. in communication from Miami University.

Appointment of a full-time Dean

During the upcoming academic year, Trinity will undertake a national search to identify an individual to serve as Dean of the School of Business for a renewable term. In the fall of 2017, Trinity will develop a position description, appoint search committee members, and devise a search timeline. Due to the nature of the search, the interim dean will be ineligible to apply for the permanent position.
