Trinity to Hold 2019 Spring Commencement
Ceremonies to celebrate Trinity’s 150th anniversary

Trinity University will hold two commencement exercises on Saturday, May 18, conferring degrees on nearly 500 undergraduate and graduate students.

The graduate commencement ceremony will be held at 9 a.m. in Parker Chapel for 40 students receiving their master’s degrees in teaching, school psychology, and accounting. No tickets are needed.

This year's undergraduate commencement ceremony will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 18, in Laurie Auditorium. Tickets are required and have been distributed to graduating students. At the undergraduate commencement, the Dr. and Mrs. Z.T. Scott Faculty Fellowship Award will be announced recognizing a faculty member who has demonstrated excellence in teaching and advising students. Ceremony speakers include Danny Anderson, president of Trinity University, who will deliver the President's 150th Anniversary Commencement Address. Amulya S. Deva ’19, a student double majoring in finance and business analytics and technology and minoring in economics, will speak on behalf of the graduating class.

Anderson became Trinity’s 19th president in May 2015 after serving as a faculty member, administrator, and dean at the University of Kansas. A native Texan, Anderson began his academic career in 1985 at the University of Texas at Austin. He received a bachelor’s degree in Spanish from Austin College and a master’s degree and doctorate in Spanish at the University of Kansas. In his four years at Trinity, he has shared many “firsts” alongside the graduating class, including his first Tower Climb and first Convocation.

Deva was the 2018 president of the Trinity University Student Government Association. During her time at Trinity, she was also a member of Sigma Theta Tau and an officer for Delta Sigma Pi. She helped raise money for the Children’s Hospital of San Antonio and the Children’s Miracle Network as the chief financial officer of TigerThon, Trinity’s annual dance marathon. Deva interned in wealth management with Morgan Stanley in 2017 and 2018.

Receptions will immediately follow each of the ceremonies on the Esplanade and inside the Coates Student Center. Both ceremonies will be live-streamed on the Tiger Network. Extended viewing rooms streaming the undergraduate ceremony will be available in Stieren Theater, Northrup Hall 040, and Richardson Communications Center 319 and 320.
