Trinity Honors Small-Business Person of the Year
Founder of San Antonio investment advisory firm says she represents those who create their own workplaces

Trinity University has named Laura Ehrenberg-Chesler, founding partner of Crossvault Capital Management in San Antonio, as the Department of Business Administration's Small-Business Person of the Year.

Crossvault Capital Management is an independent investment advisory firm with a mission to provide traditional, customized portfolio management for high net worth investors and institutions.

During a late November reception in her honor, Ehrenberg-Chesler said she realized the “award isn’t really about me.” She added, “I represent the small business owner who wakes up every morning looking forward to going to work in a business that we created, or helped to create. I am a representative of those of us who have had to worry about making a payroll, or taking care of a client or customer who has a pressing need.”

The Small-Business Person award, established by Trinity in 2014, recognizes a San Antonio area entrepreneur for outstanding leadership, commitment to the community, and overall business achievements. The award connects Trinity with pivotal business figures who have outstanding career trajectories and recognizes entrepreneurship and leadership, two pillars of the School of Business. The awards program is supported through a donation from the Ancira Auto Group and Trinity alumna April Ancira ’02.

Mario González-Fuentes, marketing professor at Trinity and chair of the award selection committee, served as the master of ceremonies for the event and celebration. “Our ultimate goal with this award is to reach out and create strong links with the business community through the recognition of its most prominent leaders,” González-Fuentes said.

Previous recipients of the Small-Business Person of the Year award include Bill West of Taylor-West Advertising (2014), Michael Beldon of the Beldon Group of Companies (2015), and Sam and Gene Dawson Jr. of Pape-Dawson Engineers (2016).
