In the recently released 2019 “America’s Best Colleges” rankings by U.S. News & World Report (USNWR), Trinity University remains the top institution in Texas and No. 2 overall for regional universities. Santa Clara University took the No. 1 spot for universities in the West with a score of 100, to Trinity’s 99.
Trinity held the top spot for “Best in the West” for 26 years. Having had a score of 100 in the past, Trinity’s decrease of one point reflects a change in weights by USNWR for certain indicators.
The USNWR also gave Trinity high marks in the following areas:
- No. 1 in best value
- No. 3 in undergraduate teaching
- No. 4 for most innovative
The U.S. News & World Report’s annual “America’s Best Colleges” rankings is just one of many publications and guidebooks that have recently recognized Trinity as a premier institution. Recently, the University was named the No. 79 university in the nation by the Wall Street Journal/Times Higher Education, and College Consensus placed Trinity as the No. 1 school in Texas, besting Rice University. These rankings come on the heels of major growth in student recruitment.
“Obviously, we are disappointed to move from the top spot in the West,” says Danny Anderson, president of Trinity University. “However, I continue to be proud of the significant success we’ve experienced at Trinity in recent years with increased applications, increased selectivity, and higher academic quality of students enrolled.”
Anderson cited Trinity’s commitment to accelerating strategic priorities that also happen to have an impact on rankings.
“While we do not shift our institutional priorities to specifically meet ranking criteria, we will use this change as an opportunity to emphasize important initiatives begun in the last three years,” Anderson says. “For example, student retention and graduation rates are priorities for Trinity moving forward—challenges facing higher education as a whole.”
