Two McNair Scholars Join Trinity Program
Two Trinity students added to prestigious program

Two students at Trinity University have become the latest McNair Scholars as part of a prestigious program that prepares participants for doctoral studies through research and related scholarly activities.

Named after the late physicist and Challenger shuttle astronaut Dr. Ronald E. McNair and funded by Trinity and a U.S. Department of Education grant, the McNair Scholars Program offers academic counseling, financial aid advising, mentoring, research opportunities, seminars, paid summer internships, and graduate admissions guidance.  

“We are fortunate that Trinity recruits so many great students because this allows us to build a strong McNair program,” said Kelly Lyons, associate professor of biology and McNair Director. “These new students will embark on a multi-year journey with the goal of attending graduate school. Best of luck to the new Scholars in all that you endeavor this year!”

Since its inception at Trinity in November 2007, the program has served a total of 116 first-generation, low-income, and/or underrepresented students. The Scholars who began participation this spring are:

Tutorial faculty for the Program for the 2016-17 academic year are Rosana Blanco-Cano, associate professor of modern languages and literature; Alfred Montoya, assistant professor of sociology and anthropology; and Harry Wallace, associate professor of psychology.
