Overview
This Discovery allows students to acquire proficiency in an additional non-English language for Pathways credit beyond (and separate from) the Foreign Language requirement. Students interested in learning this additional language can complete three sequenced courses offered by the departments of Modern Languages and Literature and/or Classical Studies. These courses are designed to help students transition from beginning/elementary to intermediate levels in a specific language.
Requirements
Students who have already satisfied their Pathways Foreign Language requirement in a different language may complete at least 9 credit hours within ONE of the following languages to complete this Discovery:
Chinese | French | German | Greek | Italian | Japanese | Latin | Russian | Spanish
Two options are available for each language as outlined below. The first set listed is for newcomers to a language, and a second set for those with some existing familiarity is available by demonstrating some knowledge through a placement exam if eligible. Students are reminded that they are bound by the Honor Code not to misrepresent their language skill - this Discovery is intended for students who are generally new to the language in question.
