The study of modern languages and literatures provides individuals the opportunity to learn a language while exploring the culture, literature, and history of the culture from which the language derives. The department offers majors and minors in Chinese, French, German, Russian, and Spanish, and courses in Italian.
Courses in modern languages and literatures teach students how to speak, write and understand the grammar of the language. In addition, the curriculum provides an array of courses that give special attention to the literature, culture and films of language traditions.
Incorporating in-class work, internship opportunities, immersion programs, and independent study, many activities and experiences allow ample opportunities to network and interact with native speakers. This provides our students with an advantage in the competitive environment of today's global marketplace.
